Medical Device Technology group
IRL’s Medical Device Technology Group is focused on supporting and helping grow New Zealand’s emerging medical device industry through the development of niche quality medical devices that meet health needs and growth markets.
Our three main research areas are:
- assistive technologies – upper limb rehabilitation
- imaging and sensing – niche areas in ultrasound, optical and novel materials
- rapid diagnostics – nanopore separation, biosensing and microfluidic device fabrication and application.
In addition to the medical device industry, MDT’s technology platforms may also benefit other sectors including:
- environmental, human and animal health
- agri-technology
- food and plant production.
We work with a variety of industry and research partners in the development of new, technology-intensive products.
