Novel structure makes front cover of international magazine
A novel IRL-researched compound has caught the eye of the editors of the international crystallographic journal Acta Crystallographica.
The unique structure of this particular complex involves a dimethyl-substituted ethanol and 1,3-propanediol.
The propanediol has coordinated in three ways within one compound so the structure, which has a “bread-basket” look about it with a “handle” made up of one propanediol ligand (spanning the outer two titaniums) and the other bridging ligand oxygen atoms forming the tray, was chosen as a front cover illustration.
One of the objects of our recent research has been the production of thin-film titania-based photocatalysts using sol-gel methods.
Modification of titanium alkoxides with aminoalcohols provides complexes with properties designed for specific applications.
No similar compounds have been characterised before.
