New Industry Research and Outreach Fellowships

IRL recognises a need to link leading-edge engineering, science and technology to address future challenges facing New Zealand and to deliver economic growth. This has led to the establishment of an initial offering of five Industry Research and Outreach Fellowships to lead development and application (see the media release IRL invests $19m in research leaders).

Proposals are invited from thought leaders in their field who are able to demonstrate their research, development and application achievements, experience and the ability to focus their skills on achieving significant advancement in research and industry that is generating value within the following areas:

  • Technologies for green growth
  • Maori economic and industrial development
  • Materials in a low carbon future
  • Re-design of the built environment
  • Nano-enabled biomaterials
  • Next-generation manufacturing processes
  • Transformational energy and power systems and grids
  • Digital futures for industrial processes
  • Natural product processing and development.

Each appointment is initially for a five-year period, will have an annual research allocation of NZ$500,000, be based at the IRL Gracefield Campus and will have the opportunity to collaborate with recognised industry partners, and be responsible for technology transfer for the benefit of the New Zealand economy.

IRL also welcomes enquiries from private sector companies interested in supporting this initiative.
