Industrial processes and systems

IRL boasts world-leading applied mathematics capabilities, which allow it to offer considerable value to high-tech manufacturing, in the form of such services as experimental design and data analysis, heat and mass transport modelling and the development of non-standard mathematical models to simulate physical systems.

Experimental design and data analysis

We are able to assess the probability of compliance to declared weights and volumes in manufacturing processes; and design sampling protocols to undertake these compliance assessments.

Modelling heat and mass transport in industrial settings

We are able to model both the flows of fluid and heat in industrial processes, enabling the optimisation of a range of commercial activities from metal casting to the design of appliances.

Mathematical models to simulate physical systems

For many well defined industrial processes, off-the-shelf software can be obtained that will predict the behaviour of a system. However, organisations will sometimes want to model something that doesn’t fit the standard software. Because IRL is able to start from the mathematics of the underlying physical processes, we’re able to build models of nonstandard problems and predict what happens in those systems.
